This is my first time working for a company that is “the best” at something. So often in business, you’re fighting for a chunk of the pie, and here I get the entire pie and a scoop of ice cream on top. Being #1 has its advantages for sure.
Some of you might be asking how I can claim that Earth911.com is “the best.” Here’s the factors I use:
- We’re the #1 search result on Google for “recycle” (the second most searched green term in 2007), and the top five results all link to us as a resource.
- I handle media inquiries for Earth911.com, and I’m getting two or three calls a week from media that most companies would druel over (Oprah, BusinessWeek, Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, etc.); these media consider us the recycling experts.
- Plus, my favorite story: In November 2007 NBC was running a week of green programming and we wanted to get involved. I ran a Google search for “NBC green programming” and the #1 result was an Earth911.com news story (we outranked NBC), so I contacted NBC Universal with that information and got a call back within an hour. Who gets NBC to call back on a cold call? The best in the biz, that’s who. Later that week, we were featured as a resource on an episode of “Heroes.”
This is why I don’t ever get mad when people ask what I do and I tell them I work for Earth911.com. They haven’t heard of us, but if they show any interest in the subject of recycling, it would be impossible to miss us.
